Healthy Maine Partnership Grant and a Coordinated School Health Program

School Union 92/School Union 92/MSAD #26, in partnership with the Union River Healthy Communities Coalition, was awarded a three year Healthy Maine Partnership grant to develop a Coordinated School Health Program. A Coordinated School Health Program is an effective system designed to connect health with education. This approach improves students’ health and capacity to learn through the support of families, communities, and schools working together.

Benefits of a Coordinated School Health Program

Research has shown that by coordinating school health programs, schools can improve classroom behavior, reduce absenteeism, improve academic performance and better prepare students to become productive members of their communities. A coordinated approach recognizes that “healthy kids make better students and better students make healthy communities.”
